CLASS | Tim Pears (Fiction) - Bio

Fiction

Writing teaches writing. Exploring such elements of story telling as structure and plot, character, place, the importance of detail, voice, point of view and editing, this course will offer intensive writing workshops designed to generate creative energy. Ink will flow. We shall aim to gain insight into the art of writing fiction, and to produce, and share, exciting work during the three-week course.

ABOUT Tutor: Tim Pears
Tim Pears, MA, is the author of six novels, including In the Place of Fallen Leaves (Hamish Hamilton, 1993), which was awarded the Hawthornden Prize and the Ruth Hadden Memorial Award; In a Land of Plenty, (Doubleday, 1997), which was made into a ten-part BBC television series; and Landed (Cornerstone, 2010). He has also published short stories and essays on sport. In 1996 he received a Lannan Literary Award for Fiction, in America.

He has taught several creative writing courses, including courses at Ruskin College, Oxford, and the Arvon Foundation. He was Writer in Residence at Cheltenham Festival of Literature, 2002-03, and Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Oxford Brookes University 2006-08.
