TRAVEL | Thunderbirds Are Go (In Doha)

Arrived in Doha about 6.50am into a stinking hot 38 degrees and exit from the plane to the terminal meant stepping down to the tarmac into courtesy buses that loooked like they were straight off the set of the Thunderbirds.

Yep - those crazy Doha locals have a real thing for Virgil and the crew. I couldn't think of anything else, 'cos all their vehicles that serviced the runway were just pure replica's of anything you'd see on the show.

Everything was white hot like a poker that had sat in a fire for hours.

The palm trees were full of burnt fronds and the landscape was pretty typical of the Middle East: the ground was decorated everywhere with designer chic building site rubble masquerading as street art.

Try to imagine the worst job in the world and I bet it comes nowhere near that of the poor buggers in the road crew work gangs who dig holes under a sun that spits out heat of 38 degrees....at 7AM in the morning.

They can have it.

And then my daydream was broken by the jolt of the bus giving way to a speeding fuel-tanker. hey - if you speed in a fuel-tanker on a run-way and just miss a busload of people.....doesn't that make you a bloody idiot?
