ACTIVITIES | Where Fore Art Thou, My Nerdy Romeo?

On Thursday night, a large group of us took off for a bit of local cult-cha!!

It should come as no surprise that during summer in the UK, there are more performances of Shakespeare than you can poke a Bard at.

So a large contingent went to an open air performance at the amphitheatre of the Said Business School (no Egyptian jokes, please).

The weather was cool and the girls shivered.

Although the actors were exceptional in their enunciation and the staging was quite clever, opinion was not divided on the quality of the casting and acting.

Poor Romeo. His choice to play the character as some sort of 21st century computer-geek was ....well.....basically it just didn't work. He looked far too nerdy and unconvincing.

Juliet was my pick, while the Scottish actor swanning about with a 'look at me, Ahhhmm Sco-itsch' repose deserves special mention simply for looking up himself for most of the show. The bloke playing Tibbault was suitably slimy and got no sympathy during his death scene. Not that his 'death' wasn't good - he played the character so well I genuinely didn't like him.
