Who wouldn't want to see the birthplace of the King Arthur legend?
I dunno about you but most of my childhood was spent watching a lot of weekend afternooon tv - gunfighting westerns or jousting knights (and Michael Pate somehow managed to be convincing in both).
Word was that the Round Table itself was actually hanging on a wall. And sure enough there it was, impersonting a clock with far too many hands.
At the other end was something special for Mum. An entire wall devoted to a family tree. Now remember how the Poms like to do everything BIG! Well this was the BIGGEST family tree I had seen. I would find it overwhelming to live in that place having all those names constantly watching your every move.
Oh - under the Round Table was a statue of Queen Victoria. Yes - you guessed it. BIG!
And another fact revealed itself. I didn't know (or forgot) that Winchester was for a time the capital of England and played quite a part during the civil war. It was a pretty impressive castle by all account until that try-hard, party pooper Oliver Cromwell had it destroyed.
Now there is only a guard tower left. The guard isn't there anymore by the way...
